Malkata
   Modern name for an area on the west bank of the NileoppositeThebesknown asAten Tjehen. Here the remains of a palace of Amenhotep III have been found, as well as a pleasure lake at nearby Birket Habu. The site was discovered in 1888 and excavated by the American R. Tytus from 1901–1903, the Metropolitan Museum of Art from 1910–1920, and an American expedition from Pennsylvania from 1971–1974. It has been more recently examined by a Japanese expedition from Waseda University from 1972–1980 and 1985–1988.
